Robert M. Tamurian, M.D.
As an orthopedic oncologist, Dr. Robert M. Tamurian is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, fellowship trained in Orthopedic Oncology and holds memberships in multiple national and international professional societies including, Musculoskeletal Tumor Society and Connective Tissue Oncology Society. He specializes in bone and soft tissue tumors that affect the musculoskeletal system, with special emphasis on limb preservation surgery.
After receiving his medical degree from State University of New York, Upstate Medical Center, Dr. Tamurian completed a surgical internship and orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Michigan. He then served in the U.S. Navy as staff orthopedic surgeon with a special interest in trauma and sports medicine. Following his decorated naval career, he pursued additional training, completing an orthopedic oncology fellowship at the University of Florida.
With the addition of Dr. Tamurian, Summit Orthopedic Specialists now offers the only orthopedic oncology program in the greater Sacramento region and one of the few in all of Northern California. Dr. Tamurian specializes in the surgical management of benign and malignant bone and soft tissue tumors. He also focuses on total joint arthroplasty reconstructive services, including minimally invasive total hip, computer assisted and patient-matched customized total knee replacements, as well as complex revision adult reconstruction. Prior to his arrival at NCOC, Dr. Tamurian was Chief of Orthopedic Oncology at UC Davis Medical Center.
Dr. Tamurian strives to help each patient understand their condition and treatment options, thus empowering them to make the best possible choices about their individualized treatment. His focus on the development of limb sparing surgical techniques ensures patients have access to the most technologically advanced care and cutting edge surgical techniques. He believes in treating the whole patient through close collaboration with oncologists, radiation oncologists and other cancer experts to achieve the best possible results.
