Orthotics are orthopedic devices designed to treat or adjust biomechanical disorders or deficits of the foot. Simple orthotics, such as cushioned heel cups or insoles, are sold over-the-counter. The most effective orthotics are custom-made shoe inserts specially crafted to meet the needs of the patient.
At Summit Orthopedic Specialists, your doctor creates orthotics that are made to specifically fit the size and shape of your foot, as well as correct your individual foot problem. This is done by creating an impression of the foot called a cast, which is then made into a customized insert worn in the shoe.
Orthotics can be used to help:
• Bunion pain
• Chronic heel, knee or low back pain
• Flat feet
• Ankle sprains
• Shin pain
• Abnormal shoe wear
In addition to functional orthotics to correct foot deformities, Summit also offers accommodative orthotics, which are often used in young children to correct minor foot problems.
